We will start with a thought experiment: what would happen if tomorrow, for no apparent reason, all humans disappeared from the Earth? Thanks to scientific models we discover that we are not indispensable and that we have had a rare, precious opportunity to exist. A lesson in evolutionary humility to confront the Anthropocene.
